Threads of the TV: Batgirl (Batman)

Holy internet, Batman! A new blog post!

Yesiree, a new post is here! And today we're going into the magical land of television! The Batman TV series from the 60s is one of my favorite shows. It's super fun and goofy, and full of tons of color. One of my favorite characters would of course be... *drum roll* Batgirl! Batgirl was created for the TV show specifically and is now one of the most popular super-heroines. She had her own theme song in the TV show as well!

A very odd theme song, yes, but catchy!

 Barbra Gordon

Barbra Gordon/Batigirl was, of course, portrayed by the lovely Yvonne Craig! Barbra always wore her hair up in a small beehive hairstyle (which I love). She also always wore short bright colored dresses. She also sometimes wore cat eye glasses! Her makeup was also pretty simple, especially considering it was the 60s. Her eye makeup was very natural and her lips were lightly colored.

 Batgirl

As Batgirl, Barbra through on a red wig. I love the way her hair is styled with the curls on the end. Of course, the main attraction here is the costume. Her costume is a bright purple with gold detailing, including on the cape. The costume is so bright and fits in perfect with the show. Pat Barto was the costume designer for the show, and I just would love to applaud him for his creativity and great designs! You can't really see her makeup since she's wearing a mask, but it looks to be basically the same as when she's Barbra Gordon. I mean, when you're out fighting crime, who need to change makeup? There are way more important things at hand. The only difference I can see is that her cheekbones look to be contoured more. The makeup artist for the show was Ben Nye, who did a ton of makeup for television and movies in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. He also continued working all the way until the 80s!

Batgirl is one of my all time favorite superheroes and Yvonne Craig's portrayal of the butt-kicking (or face kicking, as this is what she mostly did in the show!) hero with her hip motorcycle is certainly the grooviest!

Who is your favorite superheroine? If you're a fan of the Batman TV series of the 60s, what is your favorite thing about Batgirl? Who is your favorite character? I will be doing some more posts on Batman characters here on this blog in the future as well!

Stay tuned for next time when I will go over an awesome animated African-American character, can you guess who it will be? Hint: she's in a rock n' roll band!

Same bat-time, same bat-blog!
